bowie jacket muslin

Have you seen the amount of research Tempest has put into the David Bowie Sewalong slated for the month of March?  Impressive.  As I encouraged dear Tempest in this little endeavor, I sincerely hope I haven't been overly unrealistic about being able to complete my natty suit.  The jacket and pants are raising my game-- tailoring and a front fly are not part of my repertoire.
I'm using Butterick 4610 for the jacket plus welt pockets, bound buttonhole, and fusible tailoring techniques from Gretchen Hirsch's Craftsy course, The Starlet Suit Jacket, now discontinued I believe.  Sewaholic Thurlow for the pants, Gertie's Portrait Blouse for the shell.  At least the shell pattern looks easy enough, but I've never made it before.  So yeah, three garments done by the time I hit the road with Fenna for a grandparental visit March 22.  We shall see.
Looking pretty good, right?  It seems a bit wrinkly in the back, but I can't identify what alterations would be needed.  Please weigh in if you know more than I do (likely).  Xo.

  1. (Insert "I'm no expert" disclaimer here.) It may be a little wide at the shoulders. What I would do is check that the sleeve cap seam is at your shoulder joint - find your shoulder joint by raising your arm out to the side. When it is parallel or a little higher than parallel to the floor you should see a crease (on your skin). That is where your shoulder joint is, and where the sleeve cap seam should be, as I understand it. Sorry if this is one of those things everyone else knows, but somehow I missed. It was a revelation to me when I learned about it.

If the problem is too wide shoulders, there was a good tute on the Colette Patterns blog about how to fix it - http://www.coletterie.com/sewalongs/anist-sew-along-wide-or-narrow-shoulder-adjustment

    I hope this helps!

    1. Cool, thank you! You're right. I think I also need to raise the armscye.
